How Ka-Zar's Pangea Plot Was Resolved in the Pages of the Avengers!

Wrap it Up is a lot like my Provide Some Answers feature, which is about long-running comic book plots finally being resolved. This, though, is a more specific comic book occurrence where the plotlines of a canceled comic book are wrapped up in the pages of another comic book series. This would happen most frequently in Marvel Comics, but other companies did it, as well.

Today, we look at how a storyline in Ka-Zar's 1980s ongoing series was abruptly resolved in the pages of the Avengers.

In Ka-Zar the Savage #1 (by Bruce Jones, Brent Anderson and Carlos Garzon), Ka-Zar's sabretooth companion, Zabu, was stolen. Ka-Zar went to go look for him and traveled way past his normal area of the Savage Land...

In doing so, he discovered a whole other section of the Savage Land!

In the next issue, we learn that the land is called Pangea and was built with Atlantean technology and involved mutated being living in uneasy peace with each other. Bird people, cat people, dinosaur people, people people, all sorts of stuff...

Pangea was the main setting for the series for the first 15 issues, but then the book moved on, only to return for a story in Ka-Zar the Savage #29-31 that involved a war in Pangea that Ka-Zar and Shanna help resolve...

Part of the peace involves Ka-Zar being banned from Pangea. He agrees to leave, but it seems like he would eventually return, but the book ended after a three-issue arc involving Ka-Zar's evil brother...

Well, with no one writing new stories about Pangea, someone at Marvel must have decided that it was not a good idea to have this whole other EXTRA Savage Land out there, so in Avengers #256 (by Roger Stern, John Buscema and Tom Palmer), Terminus arrives in the Savage Land...

In the next issue, he waltzes into Pangea...

As Ka-Zar explains Pangea to the Avengers...

And then Terminus just wipes Pangea out...

The Avengers show up as things are going really poorly...

They fight Terminus as the environmental controls keeping Pangea alive are destroyed, so the rest of the Antartica weather begins to pour in...

Terminus is defeated, but the next issue confirms that while the Savage Land is now mostly gone, Pangea is ALL gone...

Of course, this being comics, that was not the end of things, but that's another column!
