Actor Josh Brolin was almost the star of Jurassic World.

While speaking to Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz, Brolin discussed why exactly he turned down the role of Owen Grady, a part that later went to actor Chris Pratt for the 2015 blockbuster. "With all respect to Steven [Spielberg]," Brolin said, "I could not picture me doing it. I could not picture me being that guy. And I'm very, very happy, based on my decision, of what Chris does with it because I think Chris is the right guy."

Brolin continued talking about Pratt, praising his fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actor. "When I saw Chris in Guardians of the Galaxy... I was just like, 'What?' I mean, we all were," Brolin said, sharing his reactions to Pratt's performance with Horowitz. Pratt portrayed Peter Quill/Star-Lord in various MCU films like Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers Endgame (2019), which also feature Brolin as the Mad Titan Thanos.

The news that Brolin turned down Jurassic World was not the only casting story discussed on the podcast, being that the conversation also revealed that Brolin was in the running for Bruce Wayne/Batman in the DC Extended Universe. The actor said that it was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder's decision not to run with Brolin for the DC film, and the part eventually went to actor Ben Affleck. Of course, now Affleck has spoken on not wanting to don the cowl again in the DCEU aside from appearing in The Flash, though actor Michael Keaton will be reprising his Caped Crusader for both The Flash and Batgirl.

Despite Brolin not joining the DCEU or Jurassic Park franchise, which is about to wrap its sequel trilogy with Jurassic World: Dominion, he recently portrayed Gurney Halleck in Dune (2021) alongside actors like Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson and more. Brolin will return for the film's sequel, though news on the project is scarce. As for other potential projects, the actor said in another interview that he would play Thanos again in the MCU, so long as Marvel asks him to.

Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to release in theaters on June 10, 2022. Not only will Pratt and actor Bryce Dallas Howard return for the trilogy's conclusion, but so too will the original stars of Jurassic Park (1993). This includes Sam Neill as Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Ellie Sattler and Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm.
