Marvel Studios is making a bid to entice moviegoers back to theaters in Hong Kong by re-releasing The Avengers and Iron Man 3 for a two-week stretch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the films will be available from May 28 to June 10. Earlier in May, Hong Kong allowed movie theaters to reopen as it relaxed coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, although various guidelines for public safety are in effect. The site adds that other Marvel films may be re-released, although the studio has not made an official announcement.

Hong Kong also will get a 4k remastered version of 1999's The Matrix, and the re-release of The Dark Knight trilogy. The Christopher Nolan-helmed films will also be re-released in Taiwan. Marvel's Avengers series is being re-released in China, along with Avatar (2009), and Interstellar (2014) and Inception (2010) from Warner Bros.

The Toho Cinemas chain of theaters in Japan is presenting blockbusters from the '80s and '90s such as Blade RunnerThe Shawshank Redemption and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Toho also has gone back to Hollywood's Golden Age, with revivals of classics such as The Wizard of OzBen-HurBonnie and ClydeEast of EdenWest Side Story and Rio Bravo.
