James Rhodes was in pretty rough shape the last time audiences saw him. A career military man, Rhodes moonlit as War Machine, a superhero clad in armor designed by Tony Stark. His run as War Machine came to abrupt end when he was shot out of the sky by friendly fire. Rhodey was revealed to be partially paralyzed at the end of Captain America: Civil War, his superhero days seemingly behind him.
But it looks like that’s not the case. The trailer for Avengers: Infinity War teased Rhodey’s return to the skies, but now an officially licensed t-shirt has revealed a closer look at War Machine’s new armor. If you were hoping for Rhodey to get even more devastating shoulder-mounted Stark tech, well, your prayers have been answered.
The end of Civil War teased Rhodey’s return to a combat-ready state in the form of a device cooked up by Tony Stark. Whether that device accounts for the many new layers of steel separating Rhodey from the outside world is unclear, but one thing is for sure: Anyone who wants to pry War Machine from his armor is going to have a tough time of it.
Debuting in theaters on May 4, Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan and Benedict Cumberbatch.
