Earth's Mightiest will make their last stand against the full might of Thanos in Wakanda in this week's eagerly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War.
Marvel has released a new online featurette with Chris Evans, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright explaining why the final fight, which has been reported as being 25 pages long in the shooting script, is set in Black Panther's kingdom.
"They need support and help to deal with a very major global threat," Gurira said. Gurira plays Okoye, leader of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda's elite fighting force, in the film. "Of course Wakanda and Wakandans are the best to partner with."
First glimpsed during the mid-credits scene in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, Wakanda was explored in full earlier this year in Black Panther as a reclusive, afro-futurist nation that is slowly opening up to the outside world.
"The best thing about Marvel is every single movie has set this chessboard up for this really tense standoff." Evans said. "Each character has an environment that they fit in and it's nice to move some of those pieces around. I'm fairly lucky that I got to be the one to go and infiltrate Wakanda [in Civil War]."
Protected by Vibranium-powered forcefields and weaponry, Wakanda has famously never been conquered by outside invaders. Promos for the upcoming Avengers sequel showcase a major battle sequence with the Wakandans and Avengers fighting alongside each other against Thanos' alien Outriders.
"This is the place where we should rally then try to win this," Boseman said.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The films opens April 27.
