A Thanos-packed Avengers: Infinity War featurette focuses on Josh Brolin's role as the Mad Titan, and reminds fans of the villain's complex motives.

First teased in 2012's The Avengers, Thanos has slowly built toward becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most formidable foe, even as the Infinity Stones were seeded among the films. With the franchise's storylines culminating in the 19th feature, it's time to head back and discuss Thanos' role.

To celebrate Infinity War's release on Blu-ray, the featurette hones in on Thanos' quest to bring balance to the universe. While the likes of Red Skull and Loki have antagonized the heroes of the MCU over the past decade, the video demonstrates how they pale in comparison to Thanos.

Executive producer Louis D'Esposito reiterates that Thanos sees his finger snap moment as the only way to restore order after what happened on Titan. As Thanos himself says, "I'm a survivor."

MCU staple Robert Downey Jr. addresses how Thanos is bigger than anything the team has encountered before: "Tony knows just by the way that Bruce Banner describes Thanos, it's a different game now." Chris Hemsworth goes on to say, "Just his sheer force is something that none of the Avengers has ever encountered before."

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have the final word, with Joe explaining, “Heroes are are only as good as their villain, but if the Avengers were built for anything for it’s for stopping Thanos from completing his goal.”

As well as highlighting the villainy of Thanos, the featurette also covers the more human aspects of the character. In a similar vein to more sympathetic villains like Erik Killmonger, there is a sense of method to the Mad Titan's madness. That said, there's no escaping that Thanos is a mass murderer on a cosmic scale.

With Thanos being one of Infinity War's biggest players, it is unclear what role he'll have in next year's Avengers 4. The theories are already swirling on how the remaining Avengers can topple Thanos and if they can bring back their fallen comrades.

In the meantime, audiences can watch Thanos' Infinity Stone treasure hunt over and over again to relive Brolin's powerhouse performance as the purple psychopath. Avengers: Infinity War is available on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD.
