A terrifying piece of Avengers: Infinity War concept art shows off an early look for Red Skull that looks like a cross between Skeletor and Mumm-Ra.

The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand took over from Hugo Weaving as Red Skull and it was hard to spot the difference between the pair. Although Marquand's Red Skull was a doppelgänger for Weaving's from Captain America: The First Avenger, it looks like he was initially going to take cues from the He-Man and ThunderCats villains.

Posting on Instagram, Marvel Studios concept artist Constantine Sekeris showcased his early design for Red Skull and a much more horror-centric look. Emphasizing the "skull" element of Red Skull, Sekeris' look includes a more exposed and decomposed version of the character.

Sekeris went on to explain that Rodney Fuenteblla went on to deliver Red Skull's final look for the film. The finished version of Red Skull was much simpler and featured him wearing a hood.

This isn't the first piece of alternate concept work for how Red Skull could've looked in the Avengers ensemble. Although Marquand has said he'd happily give the part back to Weaving, he also admitted he'd jump at the chance to play Red Skull in another movie. If Cap's archnemesis returns, maybe Sekeris can put his designs to good use?
