It was reported last week that "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage was in early talks for an unspecified but "key" role in Marvel's "Avengers: Infinity War," leading to widespread speculation, and at least one purported "leak," which appears to have been incorrect.

But now the Daily Mail offers a first glimpse of the two-time Emmy winner's new look, which may provide the best clue yet as to his part in the highly anticipated Marvel Studios film.

Captured in photos taken Thursday in a New York City salon (which can be seen on the Daily Mail website), Dinklage sports fiery red hair that immediately evokes Pip the Troll, the Marvel Comics character that debuted in 1975's "Strange Tales" #179. The creation of Jim Starlin, who also created or co-created such characters as Thanos, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora, Pip is most often associated with the fan-favorite Adam Warlock, for whom he serves as a comedic foil.

More importantly, Pip played a role in Marvel Comics' "Infinity Gauntlet" crossover and its sequel "Infinity War."

Of course, this remains speculation for the time being. Marvel has yet to confirm Dinklage's involvement, and there have been no reports the studio has reached an agreement with the actor. Any official announcement likely won't arrive for at least another week or two, when principal photography is expected to begin at Pinewood Atlanta Studios.

"Avengers: Infinity War" will boast Marvel's biggest cast to date, with Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Jeremy Renner, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan and Zoe Saldana confirmed as just part of the sprawling ensemble. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Captain America: Civil War") from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

"Avengers: Infinity War" opens May 4, 2018.
