A week ago, Netflix gave Marvel Studios fans everywhere a timely Christmas present by releasing Avengers: Infinity War for streaming on Dec. 25. This of course meant that the biggest superhero movie of the year was now available to become the next entry in your big, festive holiday movie marathon. But Infinity War isn't just a Christmas movie. No, now, it can also be used as the perfect way to ring in the New Year.

For the past few weeks, you might have seen a meme circulating on social media informing people that if they were to start watching Avengers: Infinity War at a precise right time on Dec. 31, then the infamous scene where Thanos snaps his fingers to wipe out half of all life in the universe would take place at midnight exactly. Well, Reddit user u/gokunak did exactly that. By timing the watching of Infinity War just right, the clock stroke midnight precisely when Thanos snapped his Infinity Stones-powered fingers.

The redditor recorded the moment, showing their computer clock nearing midnight just as Thor and Thanos face off in the film. As Thanos whispers that the God of Thunder should have aimed for his head, he snaps his fingers at 12:00 on the dot -- then the screen of the film turns white.

For Marvel fans, this is likely the best possible way to ring in the New Year. After all, Infinity War was one of the biggest and most talked about movies of 2018 and its follow-up, Avengers: Endgame, is bound to become the biggest cinematic event of 2019. This watching ties 2018 together, and sets the stage for 2019 neatly.

Of course, this also means that after you exchange warm wishes for a happy New Year with your loved ones, you have to watch your favorite superheroes die all over again as you finish the movie. But with the New Year comes the promise of hope -- hope that your favorite Avengers will, somehow, return to life... and save the universe.
