The Avengers and the Fantastic Four Tackle Both Sides of a Force Field

We already saw She-Hulk and Wasp run into the field a couple of months before Avengers #233 (which Byrne helpfully also drew with Joe Sinnott), but at the start of the issue, Captain Marvel runs into the field (literally) as well. She heads to Avengers Mansion where Wasp fills her in on the details of Fantastic Four #254...

So the other Avengers show up and try to stop the ever-expanding field. Thor throws his hammer into it and...well...it did not go well for Thor...

Inanimate matter is covered by the field while animate matter is pushed back. This causes a problem when the Vision and Scarlet Witch show up to help...

Okay, so Captain Marvel then flies into outer space to build up a huge charge so that she can hit the field's source with as much power as she can muster...

As it turned out, that coincided with the Fantastic Four's attack from the Negative Zone!

The field dropped, so the Avengers head into the Baxter Building and we get the OTHER side of the same scene from Fantastic Four #256...

The Vision is eventually cured through the help of the super-computer from Starfox's home on Titan, but this corrupts the Vision and leads him to try to take over the world. So this was the start of a major Avengers storyline right here. Clever stuff.
