Now that Disney has acquired Fox and its major Marvel properties, Avengers: Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely want Marvel's Merry Mutants to take some time away from the big screen before entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While appearing at Comic-Con International in San Diego last weekend, Markus and McFeely expressed interest in seeing the Silver Surfer join the MCU as the shared cinematic universe expands its cosmic slate of films. They also hope Marvel Studios takes its time introducing the X-Men.

"I think X-Men should rest a second. I could be wrong, but I think they should rest," McFeely declared in an interview with Collider. "But Surfer could use a really good standalone."

As the X-Men recently starred in the poorly received Dark Phoenix earlier this summer, McFeely and Markus' reluctance to see the X-Men back on the big screen so soon is well-founded. The duo have penned every single Captain America solo film, dating back to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. They also worked on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
