After the cataclysmic events of Avengers: Infinity War and Thanos' finger snap moment, James Rhodes/War Machine (Don Cheadle) was one of the lucky 50% who made it to the end credits alive. Avengers: Endgame picked up the story five years after "The Decimation," with War Machine, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Rocket and others working to keep the world safe. However, there were originally plans to have Rhodey become Vice President of the United States.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, writer Christopher Markus said "Vice President Rhodey" was one of the many dropped ideas. Markus explained Rhodey's move into politics didn't fit with the rest of Endgame, saying, "We took it out because it didn't have any story weight, but I believe that during one draft, in the five year jump, Rhodie became vice president."

Although Terrence Howard introduced the decorated military man in 2008's Iron Man, Cheadle took over the role for Iron Man 2. Since then, Cheadle has appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Danai Gurira as Okoye and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, with Gwyneth Paltrow Pepper Potts, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Josh Brolin as Thanos. The film is available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
