Avengers: Endgame Surprise Trailer Debuts a New Recruit

Marvel Studios surprised everyone this morning by dropping an unannounced trailer for Avengers: Endgame, a two-plus minute teaser that's going to get fans talking, and new fan theories flowing.

At first, it seems as though the trailer simply features new dialogue spoken over flashback footage. It opens with a scene from the first Iron Man film, before moving to clips from Captain America, Thor and other early Marvel movies, all shown in black and white, with red highlights. About halfway through, it segues into the present, as Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye and the rest of the team re-form and rebuild in their attempt to defeat Thanos and save the universe.

The new footage includes more of Natasha and Clint's reunion, presented in a way that makes it clear the archer's family did not survive Thanos' snap. A flashback sequence shows Clint teaching his daughter how to use a bow, and judging by the look on his face, he's a genuinely broken man.

We also see the team debut the "advanced Tech" outfits that have spawned a thousand fan theories, as the Avengers, along with Nebula, march through their hangar, presumably on their way to the Quantum Realm.

Of course, the big news is the arrival of the team's newest member, Captain Marvel. Though she's not seen in costume, Carol Danvers meets Thor in a quick scene at the end of the trailer, quickly impressing the Avengers' Thunder God by not flinching when he calls Stormbreaker to his hand, which he's holding out, right next to her head. Though she doesn't actually talk, her smirk and the fact that she doesn't even blink as the hammer barley misses her speaks volumes, not only to Thor, but to the audience.
