The teaser trailer for Avengers: Endgame provides the first real look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the devastating events of Infinity War, as the remaining heroes come to terms with what was lost, and grapple with what to do next. Although the actions, and continued threat, of Thanos loom large in this new footage, the Mad Titan is glimpsed only briefly, and even then he's mostly obscured.

What's shown instead is a direct homage to Marvel Comics' 1991 crossover The Infinity Gauntlet, written by Jim Starlin and illustrated by George Perez and Ron Lim. The visual nod explains what Thanos has been up to since his universe-altering finger snap.

Displayed prominently in the trailer is a makeshift scarecrow made from Thanos' old armor, just outside the hut in which he relaxed in the final moments of Infinity War as he watched the sunrise on an alien world. The Mad Titan previously hinted he would embark on a life of peace, should his mission prove successful, and he appears to have kept his word, content in his new role as a farmer.

The visual and Thanos' new occupation are taken directly from the final issue of The Infinity Gauntlet, following the Mad Titan's defeat by the heroes of the Marvel Universe, by Adam Warlock. In the closing moments, Adam Warlock leads Gamora and Pip the Troll to a remote alien world, where Thanos has retired tafter his failed bid to use the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all life, and win the favor of the personification of Death, for whom he's long pined. Greeting the trio of visitors is a scarecrow made from Thanos' traditional comics outfit.

While the moment seen in the trailer is likely not the closing moments of Endgame, it does explain what Thanos has been up to, beyond idly watching sunrises from his new home. Whether the regrouped heroes travel to the planet, or if the Mad Titan leaves on his own accord, is also yet to be seen.
