Avengers: Endgame Originally Had a Very Different Time Stone Story

In Avengers: Endgame, Earth's Mightiest Heroes divided into three teams and traveled through the time stream in order to steal the Infinity Stones. One team went back to 2012's Battle of New York, where The Hulk reached the Sorcerer Supreme's Sanctum Sanctorum and the Ancient One lent him the Time Stone. However, that's not always how this exchange was supposed to go.

In an interview with Canada.com, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed certain characters could have found their way inside the Sanctum for an unusual confrontation.

"At one point, we had a different way of getting to the Time Stone," Markus said, "which involved some characters breaking into [Doctor Strange’s] Sanctum Sanctorum and being pursued by all the weird stuff that happens to be trapped inside there. It was totally off story and unnecessary and it got cut, but it was fun to write."

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, Paul Rudd, Don Cheadle, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira and Bradley Cooper, with Josh Brolin as Thanos. The film is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
