During Avengers: Endgame, Okoye reports undersea earthquakes to the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which some interpreted as a tease for Namor the Sub-Mariner. However, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely say that wasn't their intention.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the two debunked the theory, with Markus saying, "I wish we were that smart."
This doesn't necessarily mean the reference won't end up leading to Namor somewhere down the line, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe definitely uses retcons. Conversely, Joe and Anthony Russo teased that the reference might have been intentional in a recent interview. Doctor Strange 2 director Scott Derrickson also seemingly teased the possibility of the popular character in March.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Danai Gurira as Okoye and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, with Gwyneth Paltrow Pepper Potts, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Josh Brolin as Thanos. The film is in theaters now.
