Captain Marvel introduced the famous Marvel villains to the big screen for the first time, as the Skrulls quickly made an impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a twist no one was expecting though, these shape-shifters were not presented to us as the evil aliens we'd come to know in the comics, instead being represented as a species of refugees just looking for a home.

A lot of time has passed in between Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. With fans speculating they can see Ben Mendelsohn's Skrull, Talos, in the background of Peter Parker's high school, we've come to wonder whether the Skrulls are back around after Avengers: Endgame. These green aliens could be the next big bad of the MCU! With their ability to take the likeness of anyone, maybe there are already some impostors amongst the ranks of the Avengers. So here's a list of characters that could be Skrulls after Endgame.

10 10. War Machine

Don Cheadle's War Machine has been up to a lot in the past five years or so. From traveling to space, to protecting the Earth during the snap years, he really has achieved a lot as the military superhero. But, during that time, anything could have happened to Rhodey.

Across this period he has clearly developed a relationship with Captain Marvel, judging by the look between the two of them. Has Rhodey been introduced to some of her Skrull friends, then? The character, like the rest on this list, has no powers, so it wouldn't be a difficult transition for a Skrull. Perhaps if James Rhodes starts walking without the use of his equipment then the rest of the characters will realize that something is up.

9 9. General Ross

If the Skrulls are looking to take over the planet, then a tactical advantage would be to take over the body of General Thunderbolt Ross. The hard-nosed military man often behaves quite erratically, with his temper usually getting the better of him. His appearance at Tony's funeral was perhaps a little surprising, but we haven't seen much else of the government representative.

It's also strange that the Sokovia accords have been forgotten about, presumably because there weren't many heroes to govern. If Ross doesn't enforce this again now that reality is back to normality, then maybe it isn't Ross at all; especially since he seemed to have no issue with being in the same location as the Hulk.

8 8. Black Widow

Just because she's dead, it doesn't mean we won't be seeing her again! The Black Widow that died on Vormir is the real Black Widow, since her blood was not green when she hit the ground. However, a replacement could have easily been made at any point during the journey.

A returning Black Widow would give the Skrulls an emotional and mental advantage, as the Avengers will have to deal with their dead friend coming back. Despite all the crazy and cosmic things they have witnessed, maybe it's a step too far to believe their partner really did survive the fall somehow.

7 7. Happy Hogan

What's Happy been up to all this time? After his scenes were deleted from Avengers: Infinity War, we haven't seen the Jon Favreau character since Spider-Man: Homecoming. With the former driver to Tony Stark clearly a big part of the Spider-Man sequel, maybe it's safe to say that there's a larger setup here.

The unassuming head of security is an important man, but is often not taken too seriously. It would be an easy role to fill consider the one person alive that could really tell it isn't the real Happy, is well... dead. Happy is involved with a lot of important people, so it would be a useful asset to have on the side of the Skrulls.

6 6. Nick Fury

Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home

Someone who fans think has been acting out of character based on the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Nick Fury is usually the man with a plan. Having been away for five years he is clearly playing catch up with everything that's been happening.

It's a useful excuse for a man that may not be a man at all. A Skrull Nick Fury could easily fill this role, as it wouldn't be surprising if he questioned everything since he was a part of the snap. Fury has also encountered the Skrulls before, so he could have been lulled into a false sense of security around them.

5 5. Pepper Potts

Pepper Potts as Rescue in Avengers:

The head of a major worldwide business and the owner of an Iron Man suit, Pepper Potts is a valuable asset for an invading species. She is well placed in the world to financially fund any villainous plots that the Skrulls wish to enact.

She is also going to be acting out of character due to her grief because of the loss of her husband, so any changes to her personality may go unnoticed by everything except her daughter who could be the first to clue in on the secret invasion.

4 4. Hawkeye

Hawkeye lost everything, so it would be a shame if the sleeper agent lost it all again when he realizes that he isn't Clint Barton at all, but a Skrull impostor.

During the snap years Hawkeye, under the guise of Ronin, traveled the world committing murders that may be a little out of character for him. It would all make sense if he was really a sleeper Skrull and one of the first to be transformed, trying to deal with this new and strangely unfamiliar life he finds himself in.

3 3. Gamora

Just because Gamora is back, that doesn't mean it's the Gamora everyone is expecting. The assumption is that the Gamora in the present day is the version who time traveled from 2014. But, what if somewhere along the way that Gamora was switched out for a Skrull?

People wouldn't make the connection due to this new Gamora having a different personality to the previous daughter of Thanos that they knew. It would be a great twist if in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 after finally finding their teammate, the Guardians realize that this is another trick.

2 2. Kraglin

Another Guardians character that has been AWOL for some time, fans have briefly spotted Kraglin amongst the combatants during the final battle of Endgame. The Ravager has been in space for a while now and anything could have happened to him.

As a trusted member of two groups, taking over Kraglin could actually be a very clever move. He could play both the Guardians and the Ravagers for the Skrulls gain; especially since he would be an unexpected source of the trouble.

1 1. Captain America

The biggest surprise on this list but one that's sure to get people talking. As Captain America traveled through time, it would be easy to assume that he had been replaced during this time period. While people assume that at some point the Hyrda Cap will be making an appearance, the Skrull version might be more likely.

If Steve was to run for some kind of Presidential bid, for instance, he would surely win based on his time as Captain America. The most patriotic and in that case, most important people in the US could be a Skrull, which would have dire consequences for Earth's mightiest heroes; especially since he is the moral core of the team.
