Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame is blowing past expectations at the box office. Early estimates had the film eyeing a $250 million domestic opening, however, the latest numbers have the film opening closer to $340 million stateside.

Avengers: Endgame took in an astounding $157.5 million on Friday, including Thursday's $60 million from previews, and has now overtaken Star Wars: The Force Awakens' opening and single day record of $119.1 million -- that's a difference of $38.4 million. The film is expected to earn $102 million-$110 million on Saturday, with Endgame now on track for an incredible $349-$356 million weekend domestically.

The film also continues to do amazing business overseas, with experts now predicting it could top $1 billion worldwide in its opening weekend -- an unheard of feat. In its first two days overseas, Endgame pulled in $305 million, with $154.5 million of that coming from China. Updated numbers are not yet available, but $1 billion globally now seems entirely possible.

Fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Captain Marvel has climbed into the number two spot, benefiting from Endgame's release much in the same way Black Panther benefited from the release of Avengers: Infinity War last year. The film is expected to take in another $8.3 million in its eighth weekend, which would bring its domestic haul to $413.8 million.

It now seems safe to assume Endgame will cross $400 million domestically by early next week -- a feat most films don't accomplish until the end of their theatrical release.
