In one of Avengers: Endgame's most famous scenes, Doctor Strange holds up his pointer finger to Tony Stark, who then sacrifices himself by stealing the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping Thanos out of existence. The most common interpretation of this scene is that Doctor Strange's gesture was meant to tell Stark that this was the Avengers' "one chance" to stop the Mad Titan, calling back to an earlier conversation between the two heroes. However, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director Kevin Smith shared his alternative theory.RELATED: Kevin Smith Shares First Look at Twilight of the Mallrats Script"One of the best moments I ever saw across a then 48 years of watching (and even making) movies," Smith said on Twitter about the scene. "Love that Tony snapped AT Thanos. But Strange holding up one finger: I take it to mean 'And THAT was our one chance' - hence Tony’s sacrifice."

While Smith did offered a different theory, most of the commentators on his Twitter post seemed to disagree with the director's assessment.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange and Tony Stark/Iron Man are portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr., respectively. While Avengers: Endgame showed the end of Tony Stark, Doctor Strange will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Kevin Smith is known for his work on comedic films such as 1994's Clerks and 2001's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. He is currently working on a follow-ups to his films, Mallrats and Clerks II, neither of which currently have a release date.
