One Marvel Cinematic Universe fan has reimagined the original six Avengers as their older selves to homage Old Man Captain America from Avengers: Endgame.

Posted on Reddit, the fan shared old versions of Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Thor Odinson and Clint Barton. Heading back to Joss Whedon's The Avengers in 2012, the six heroes united to form Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Despite new additions like War Machine, Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man who've been added over the years, the official status of the Avengers became unclear after Captain America: Civil War.

While the idea of Old Steve Rogers is nothing new in the pages of Marvel Comics, the MCU reinvented this idea as part of Endgame's shocking finale. As well as confirming the long-held theory that Rogers was Peggy Carter's husband, Endgame saw an aged Captain America reunite with Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson after returning the Infinity Stones. Even if it was only a brief moment, Old Man Captain America became synonymous with Endgame.

Although it's a striking look into the future of the MCU, the artwork will probably remain as fan fiction. Following Endgame, the tragic deaths of Black Widow and Iron Man mean Old Man Stark and Old Woman Romanoff likely won't happen. Thor's godlike status also means he ages differently than the rest of the team and Endgame left Banner happily trapped in his Professor Hulk body. Still, the idea of a What If?... series with old versions of the original six would be interesting to see.

As it stands, the official Avengers lineup looks like it's set for a revamp in Phase Four. Thor's story will continue in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, Jeremy Renner is set to lead Disney+'s Hawkeye series and Ruffalo has admitted he doesn't know what's next for Hulk. Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man looks like he's out of the MCU for now and Cate Shortland's Black Widow could round off Scarlett Johansson's tenure. Meanwhile, the latest rumors suggest Captain Marvel 2 will kick-start a New Avengers franchise with heroes including Carol Danvers and Spider-Man at the helm.

If the original six Avengers shared the screen for the last time in Endgame, it was an epic way to wave-off the first decade of the MCU. Even though the old Avengers are just the pipedream of a skilled fan artist, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is preparing to explore the potential of the Multiverse and it's a case of never say never when it comes to getting Earth's original Mightiest Heroes back together.
