The final scene of Avengers: Endgame revealed a happy ending for Captain America, as the Star-Spangled Avenger used Pym Particles to return to the 1940s and live out a happy life with Peggy Carter, with the couple seen slow dancing just before closing credits. Longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe star Hayley Atwell revealed that the sequence was filmed in secret over the course of a single afternoon in 2017. For Atwell, it was the perfect ending to her character's story reunited with Steve Rogers.

"I thought it was a fitting end to a story that has affected so many people. I thought it was very endearing, innocent and wholesome in the way that it keeps those characters in their time," Atwell said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I thought it was quite beautiful and very tasteful of Marvel to finish this 10-year story in a very simple storyline about two human beings — and one of them doesn’t even have any superpowers. So, I thought the tone of it, to end there, after some extraordinary things of trauma, action, effects and powers… to just have two people slow-dancing was very beautiful."

Atwell's time as Peggy Carter isn't quite over yet, fortunately. In addition to confirming she will reprise the role for an episode of the upcoming Disney+ series Marvel Studios' What If...?, Atwell will reportedly appear in the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in an unknown capacity.
