Although Gwyneth Paltrow claims the upcoming Avengers: Endgame will be her final time suiting up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Academy Award-winning actor revealed she'd return as Pepper Potts if Robert Downey Jr. needs her.

Paltrow shared a picture on her Instagram account of herself alongside the MCU frontman with the caption, "You KNOW I will be this guys pepper anytime he needs me ❤️ #pepperonyforever."

Joining the MCU for Jon Favreau's Iron Man back in 2008, Paltrow's role as Pepper Potts expanded to Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and The Avengers. However, Tony Stark's aide and lover was mysteriously missing from Avengers: Age of Ultron. While dark conspiracy theorists mused Pepper had been killed off-screen, Paltrow popped up for a surprise cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming and had a fleeting appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.

As it stands, Paltrow's shock exit leaves the future of both Pepper and Tony up in the air. With the pair planning their wedding and possibly the pitter patter of tiny footsteps, it would be odd for Pepper to leave without Iron Man by her side. This leaves the possibility that the two love birds will ride off happily into the sunset, or the tragic idea that Tony will be killed off in Endgame.

Despite Chris Evans repeatedly saying he's done with the MCU after Endgame, Downey Jr.'s future with the franchise is a little foggier. Fans have already theorized that Iron Man will die in the Russo Brothers' sequel thanks to the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. That being said, Paltrow's promise to come back if Downey Jr. wants her to could possibly mean both Pepper and Tony will make it out of Endgame alive.
