Newly unveiled concept art from Avengers: Endgame illustrates just how dire Earth's Mightiest Heroes' final battle against Thanos truly was.

Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding shared the concept art on Instagram, writing, "When all hope is lost! This is another moment from Endgame when Thanos’ army arrives. I loved the final battle!"

The image shows a landscape even more hellish than the one in the film, with spouts of fire and lava dotting the Outrider-covered ground and the massive Chitauri Leviathans flying through a smoke-filled sky. Meanwhile, Thanos looks down at a kneeling Captain America and he's flanked by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive.

The second piece of concept art shows a helmetless Tony Stark with his back turned to Thanos' army, with more of the lava-covered scenery and several giants walking among the Chitauri troops.

Other artists have shown other variations of the Endgame's final battle, like the presence of Frost Giants from Jotunheim, a shot of the full Iron Man familyNakia from Black Panther and enormous, AT-AT-type ants. Artwork shows that Thanos also went through several designs before settling on the final version in the film.
