One of the many surprises that Avengers: Endgame brought was the revelation that there’s a five-year time jump and, in that time, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts had a baby. We see her when she’s five years old and her name is Morgan Stark.

While Morgan did appear in the comics, the character is depicted very differently on the page than she is on-screen. Now that she’ll be growing up without a father and likely have a big role in the MCU’s future as she fills his ironclad high-tech shoes, here is Everything You Need To Know About Morgan Stark.

8 Morgan is male in the comics

As one might expect from a very male-oriented comic book universe, Morgan Stark is actually male in the source material. When Tony goes into the past in Endgame and visits Howard and tells him that he has a young daughter, Howard says a daughter would be better than a son, because there’s “less chance she’ll turn out exactly like me.”

In this moment, Tony realizes he turned out just like his dad, and he dodged a bullet by not having a son and repeating the cycle all over again. It also gives us an insight into why the filmmakers switched the character’s gender.

7 It’s not the first time the MCU has gender-swapped a character

Making Morgan Stark female isn’t the first time the MCU has swapped the gender of a character from the comics. Jeri Hogarth, Carrie-Anne Moss’ character from the now-defunct Netflix Marvel-verse, was male in the comics. Ghost, the villain-turned-antihero from Ant-Man and the Wasp, was male in the comics and female in the movies, portrayed by Hannah John-Kamen.

Mar-Vell, the Kree scientist who discovered Carol Danvers on Earth, was male in the comics, but a female played by Annette Bening in the movies. The Ancient One, the immensely powerful former Sorcerer Supreme and former keeper of the Time Stone before Stephen Strange, was male in the comics, yet a female played by Tilda Swinton in the movies.

6 She’s named after Pepper’s uncle

In Avengers: Infinity War, Tony tells Pepper about a dream he had in which they had a baby called Morgan. The name was taken from Pepper’s eccentric uncle. Cut to Avengers: Endgame a year later – or five years later, in terms of the story – and they have a five-year-old daughter named Morgan.

Now, she was technically named after a dream Tony had. But in the dream, she was named after Pepper’s uncle. Ergo, her true namesake is Pepper’s uncle. Obviously, naming your daughter after a male relative is usually a one-way ticket to a childhood of being bullied, but luckily, Morgan is a lovely name for a girl.

5 She’s played by Lexi Rabe

In Avengers: Endgame, Morgan Stark is played by Lexi Rabe. Rabe is sometimes alternatively credited as Alexandra Rachael Rabe, but in Endgame, she’s credited as Lexi Rabe. Later this year, we will see her pop up in another major blockbuster: Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

She’ll be playing the younger version of Millie Bobby Brown’s character Madison Russell, presumably in some kind of flashback or prologue scene. It can’t be easy when you’re a child actor in an Avengers movie, but no one can know you’re in it until the movie comes out due to spoilers. Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Rabe has been signed with The Green Room Management for representation.

4 In the comics, Morgan is Tony’s cousin

In the comics, Morgan Stark is the son of Edward Stark, the nephew of Tony’s parents Howard Stark and Maria Stark, and therefore the cousin of Tony Stark. The comic book version of Morgan has an intense rivalry with Tony and often tries to usurp him as the leader of Stark Industries.

It’s a bit of a stretch to go from being someone’s male cousin to being their daughter, but the writers made the right call, since the Morgan of the comics is super annoying and Tony needed a daughter to raise the stakes of Endgame and fulfill the dream he had in Infinity War.

3 Morgan turns out to be a villain in the comics

Due to his resentment of Tony, the Morgan of the comics is driven to a life of evil and villainy. He’s a little like Justin Hammer in that he uses his endless white-privilege resources to try to bring Tony down.

In the “Good as Gone” storyline, he hires a group of mercenaries who call themselves the Stockpile to break into Tony’s workshop and steal all of his Iron Man armor. In the “Dark Reign” storyline, he poses as an A.W.O.L. Tony Stark in an attempt to take over his company. The comic book version of Morgan Stark is bad news.

2 But he’s less villainous in the Ultimate Marvel timeline

In the Ultimate Marvel timeline, Morgan Stark is not a villain. He’s not a hero either, but he doesn’t actively seek to bring down Tony Stark. There’s an Ultimate Marvel storyline in which Tony, Morgan, and several other characters are taken captive by a group of renegade Guatemalan criminals.

These criminals turn out to be led by a fearsome ruler known as the “Red Devil.” They won’t led the hostages go until Tony gives them his technology, and they kill Morgan to show him they mean business. So, he builds some makeshift armor and frees the hostages – but not in time to save non-villainous Morgan.

1 There’s a reason why Morgan likes cheeseburgers

At the end of Endgame, after her dad’s funeral, Morgan asks Happy Hogan for a cheeseburger. This is a call-back to the very first Iron Man movie from way back in 2008. After spending three months in captivity in the Middle East, trapped in a cave by a malicious cell, he steps off the plane in the United States and says, “I want an American cheeseburger.”

The first thing he wants is an American cheeseburger. The second thing he asks for is a press conference, and we see him eating a cheeseburger from Burger King at that press conference. To Tony, a cheeseburger from a fast food restaurant is the defining mark of American liberty – it’s what makes it the land of the free. That’s what he has instilled into Morgan.
