At the end of Avengers: Endgame, The original Captain America, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), gave the mantle to his fellow Avenger, Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). As a way of celebrating that change, the film's directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, got Mackie a special gift during a visit to Japan. On their Twitter, the Russos uploaded two photos, telling a brief story of how they chose a present for Mackie. The first photo reveals the actual gift, a toy of Sam Wilson as Captain America, holding the iconic shield and looking like he's ready to do battle. The second photo features the toy in it's original packaging, with red text above it that simply reads "Mission accomplished...", while the city and the twilight sky fill the background.RELATED: The MCU Beyond: All the News & Rumors About What's Next for Marvel's Movies

In the comics, Sam Wilson’s time succeeding a then-depowered and elderly Steve Rogers as Captain America only lasted a few years, as he eventually returned to the identity of the Falcon in 2017. However, the change seems to be a permanent one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It's not yet known when Sam will officially become the new Captain America, though it seems likely that the upcoming The Falcon & the Winter Solider series for Disney+ will deal with the aftermath of this change.
