The world of Marvel’s The Avengers are often brought with peril. Whether it’s an alien invasion from the mighty Thanos or the army of the dark elves marching on Asgard, there are threats both on the streets of the average, every day heroes and the galactic, multiverse ending heroes as well.

In those times of great stress and life-ending threats, it’s sometimes helpful for the heroes of the Marvel Universe to have a romantic partner to lean on or look towards seeing once more. With that in mind, here are the ten best romances in the Avengers so far.

10 Hawkeye and Mockingbird

Hawkeye and Mockingbird is one of those on again, off again romances that fans both love and hate at the same time. Hawkeye is of course the skilled archer and regular member of the Avengers fans have come to know, while Mockingbird is the biologist turned SHIELD agent and Avenger who has fought alongside the team during many well known events.

The couple have been married, gone through heartbreak and loss, have divorced, and have even endured pain as Mockingbird seemingly fell in battle at one point. However during Secret Invasion, it was revealed she was alive, a Skrull abductee.

9 Thor and She-Hulk

One of the stranger new romances to bloom in recent years on the Avengers roster has to be between She-Hulk and Thor. Everyone knows Thor as Thor Odinson, the Prince of Asgard, and one of the founding members of the Avengers themselves. She-Hulk meanwhile is Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner who gained her gamma powers from a blood transfusion from Bruce.

The lawyer and superhero has undergone changes as She-Hulk in recent years, her mind devolving while in the Hulk form. However it hasn’t stopped Thor from liking Jennifer, leading to a very intimate kiss.

8 Captain Marvel and War Machine

One romance that fans had been hoping to see in Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame was the one between Captain Marvel and War Machine. While briefly teased somewhat in the film, the comic book romance between these two Avengers is an incredibly powerful one. The genetically altered Kree/Human hero Captain Marvel and loyal soldier turned hero War Machine had some feelings for one another before.

Yet it wasn’t until Thanos ended Rhodey’s life that Carol realized the full extent of her feelings. After he returned to life, they met up and after a time bubble adventure, she returned to kiss him.

7 Scarlet Witch and Brother Voodoo

One of the Avengers greatest magical couples has to be the pairing of Brother Voodoo and Scarlet Witch. The two heroes are the most popular wielders of their particular brand of magic. The Scarlet Witch dominates the world with unparalleled chaos magic while Brother Voodoo is so powerful with voodoo magic that he once held the title of Sorcerer Supreme himself.

After Scarlet Witch is possessed by the demon Chthon, Voodoo speaks on her behalf in regards to staying on the Avengers in Uncanny Avengers #26, and comforts her greatly. After more missions together and flirting, the mages begin dating.

6 Ant-Man and The Wasp

One of the most iconic yet tumultuous romances of all Marvel Comics has to be Ant-Man and The Wasp. No, this isn’t about the MCU’s Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. This is the original heroes, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. The two founding members of the Avengers were husband and wife.

Over the years, Hank’s heroism was marred by countless mistakes, from the creation of Ultron and his hyper focus on his experiments and science over the team and his wife. Yet the greatest betrayal was when he struck Janet, sadly destroying a once thought true romance.

5 Thor and Captain America

No, we don’t mean Thor Odinson and Steve Rodgers. Actually, we are talking about Sam Wilson’s Captain America sharing a romantic moment with Jane Foster, aka the new Mighty Thor. In Marvel’s recent run of comics, the All-New, All-Different Avengers in 2016 included these two heroes alongside Ms. Marvel, Nova, Spider-Man, Iron Man and more.

Unbeknownst to the other Avengers at this time, Jane was suffering from a shocking diagnosis of cancer in this storyline. Turning into Thor allowed her a new lease on life, but with her illness always there, she became carefree and kissed Sam.

4 Hulkling and Wiccan

One of the more promising and heartfelt romances between Avengers actually occurs in the off-shoot Avengers team, Young Avengers. The romance between Hulkling and Wiccan is very popular. Wiccan is a powerful hero believed to be the soul displaced son of the Scarlet Witch, while Hulkling is a half-Skrull, half-Kree hero with a grand destiny.

The romance was hinted at early in the comics for Young Avengers, and later the two began to date openly, revealing themselves to the world. Thus far their relationship has withstood many difficult periods, and a possible future shows them still together.

3 Storm and Black Panther

A classic Avengers pairing also includes one of the X-Men’s most powerful heroes. The relationship between Black Panther and Storm is truly an iconic one. The king of Wakanda and full time Avenger met the all powerful weather based mutant and future hero Ororo when they were both children.

After losing her parents and living on the streets as a thief, she witnessed T’Challa being kidnapped and saved him. Years later they would reunite, falling in love and eventually marrying one another, making Storm the Queen of Wakanda. After Avengers vs X-Men however, the two went separate ways.

2 Jessica Jones and Luke Cage

One of the street level Avengers most promising couples with the most baggage and tumultuous pasts imaginable have to be Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Between Luke Cage’s time spent on the run during the Civil War storyline siding with Captain America to the trauma of the Purple Man haunting Jessica, the two’s relationship has been filled with danger and sadness.

Yet the two somehow find their way back to one another, their love so strong that at one point they married and had a child together. The two remain together and have been strong members of the Mighty Avengers.

1 Scarlet Witch and The Vision

Probably one of the most beloved and heartbreaking relationships between two Avengers has to be that of the Scarlet Witch and The Vision. Whether it’s the classic saga of the comics or the emotional journey the MCU took fans on with the couple, Wanda and Vision have always been a passionate yet dangerous romance.

The couple have suffered greatly, from the Vision being built and giving sentience by Ultron to both nearly destroying the world at various points and losing two children they’d had together. Yet their love for one another is by far the most powerful on the team.
