They may have gone through a civil war on the big screen before being poised to make up in Avengers: Endgame, but in real life, Marvel's leading Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, are close friends, with the former revealing even more inside info on their mutual admiration and overall "bromance."

Evans explained that it was a call from Downey Jr. that inspired him to take the role of Steve Rogers in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, and since the,n Downey Jr. has taken pride in watching Evans, known more for his comedic roles back then, grow into the true definition of a social justice activist. However, Downey Jr. made it perfectly clear that Evans' warmth has rubbed off on him more than he expected.

"I've been in hundreds of scenes with this guy," the Iron Man actor told The Hollywood Reporter. "Nobody laughs more than him. Sometimes he makes me self-conscious, like, 'Should I be more fun?' There's a little bit of, like, just trying to shake out the anxiety. And I've also seen him, over the last 10 years, go from being someone who had laughably real social anxiety to someone who has grown more and more comfortable in their own skin."

Downey Jr. further elaborated on the close bond of the entire cast, who keep in contact through group text messages when they're not working on Marvel Studios projects, but admitted that Evans is someone his relationship is even more tight-knit with.

"I've spent a lot of time just in repose with this guy, on set," he added. "You know -- the shield's on the table, and we're waiting for the technocrane to get put in place. And I've had some of my greatest moments of gratitude when he was looking at me in my suit, and I was looking at him in his suit, and we're just like, 'Jesus, is this still working? How lucky are we?'"

While Iron Man got the Marvel Cinematic Universe up and running in 2008, the actor did say that no matter what, he believes it's TFA and Evans' embodiment of Cap that really stands up as the pivot of the entire Avengers project.

"[Evans'] suspension of his own disbelief, regardless of whatever doubts he had, is the reason all these other worlds are able to be built," Downey Jr. said. "Starting with Avengers, and then Guardians, and Black Panther. People love to say -- and I'll eat it up -- that I'm kind of the progenitor of this whole universe. But if you want to talk about it in terms of team building, and you want to talk about it as the most successful creative relay race in the history of cinema, he was the critical leg."
