WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Avengers: Mech Strike #1, from Jed MacKay, Carlos Magno, Guru-eFX, and Cory Petit, on sale now.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when Tom Holland debuted as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, one thing stood out: he just wouldn't shut up. It's definitely a direction taken from the comics, with his yammering and wisecracking also seen in previous cinematic iterations through Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, they more or less made rhetorical quips as opposed to trying to have conversations all the time.

Well, this annoying trait is called out by none other than Captain America in the first issue of Avengers: Mech Strike as the Star-Spangled Avenger tries to get Pete to grow up in the field.

Now while it's fun (well, mostly) to hear Pete taunting enemies but it can get a bit old rather quickly. Also, tact and timing are important, which is why Tony Stark didn't like him fanboying Captain America when he arrived at the airport and stole Steve's shield in Civil War. We'd see it later again when he fought Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as in Avengers: Infinity War when he had to help Iron Man fend off Cull Obsidian. Even when he was on Titan, as he fought Thanos, Spidey kept making joke after joke. Honestly, some situations shouldn't be taken lightly, and as the other heroes concentrate, let's just say silence is golden.

In this story, off the cuff Cap makes it clear he needs peace and quiet to focus as Earth's Mightiest Heroes fight alien dragon-like monsters that absorb material and energy, becoming bigger behemoths. They're cosmic kaiju on Earth and as Spidey talks about his fear of fighting giant opponents such as Rhino, Cap tells him he's "doing it again." Clearly, he means rambling and whether it's nervous or not, Steve needs him to cut it out as he's in the big leagues now. Steve's delegating duties, concentrating on using Thor, Captain Marvel, and Iron Man to attack the creatures while he and the wall-crawler go save civilians. But as Cap mentions heavy-hitters, Spidey chimes in again and mentions Hulk, to which Cap agrees.

Cap forgot to call the Jade Giant in and when they disembark the jet, Pete once more annoys him by asking why he wouldn't just lead with the Green Goliath. Here, Cap tells him once more he's doing it again. Basically, he's politely asking the web-head to shut up, which he admittedly does to help save the day.

When they get back to their HQ, however, Pete continues to quip as they discover they need mech suits to fight these biomechanoids. He even jokes about having a web-shooter already so it'll be difficult to use Stark's wrist gauntlets to control the bots but by this time, Cap has bigger fish to fry. Plus, Pete has toned it down, indicating he's learned his lesson. It's all a mark of respect for his boss in and hopefully he sticks to the course.
