Blade has become one of, if not the single most important heroes in the entire Marvel Universe in the ongoing  Heroes Reborn crossover event. That alternate reality tale has turned the world on its head, introducing readers to an Earth where the Avengers never formed, and Blade is the last one left who remembers things as they once were.

Now, that means that the Avengers' last hope is a hero who didn't even join the team as his true self.

Blade's time as an Avenger began in 2013's Mighty Avengers #1 by Al Ewing and Greg Land. The Daywalker was already used to being on the run, having gone underground following the disbanding of Vanguard to escape a maniacal telepath. On top of this and his fallout with the X-Men over the fate of Jubilee, then a vampire, Blade was short on allies when he needed to hunt down the Deathwalkers in secret. This cult of immortal dark mages had been defeated decades before by Blade and a different incarnation of the Avengers. Now that they had returned, the Daywalker reached out to one of the few friends he had left, Monica Rambeau, who brought him into the action with a shockingly colorful new costume that completely concealed his identity.

Alongside Rambeau's Spectrum, Luke Cage, the Superior Spider-Man and others, Blade helped fight off Proxima Midnight and Ebony Maw, the two having been sent by Thanos while the primary Avengers team was off-world. Battling Thanos' underlings proved to be easy enough, at least until Ebony Maw used Doctor Strange as a puppet to summon Shuma-Gorath before the two members of the Black Order were called home by their master. Thankfully, Blade, or rather the "Spider-Hero," was able to save the day alongside the others. Following their victory, Luke Cage made his new team official and supplied them with their own headquarters, as well as a new, more incognito disguise for Blade.

After donning the mantle of Ronin, Blade continued his search for the Deathwalkers and their plans, though it wouldn't be long before they would find him. After discovering his cover identity and sniffing him out at a safehouse, Blade was attacked by animalistic ninjas sent by the Deathwalkers, intent on both killing the Daywalker and retrieving an ancient artifact in his possession.

Blade was captured and taken to the Deathwalkers to be used a the sacrifice for a dark ritual. Blade managed to free himself from his imprisonment, just as his new team found him. Together, Blade and the Mighty Avengers proved capable of defeating the Deathwalkers once again.

This wouldn't be the end of Blade's career as one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, though he would eventually part ways with Luke Cage's band of heroes to join the primary Avengers squad on missions of an even larger magnitude. His early days as an Avenger also served as the perfect showcase of just what Blade is truly capable of, no matter what face he has to put on to accomplish his goals.
