A report has surfaced seemingly confirming months-old rumors that Disney XD's Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes has been canceled, to be replaced by a new animated series called Avengers Assemble. The second season debuted April 1 as part of the cable network's new Marvel Universe programming block.

According to the Marvel TV News fan site, the news arrived in an official Marvel press release announcing "The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013." It was accompanied by the Avengers Assemble promo image at right. However, when contacted by Spinoff Online, Marvel had no comment.

Developed by Marvel Animation in cooperation with Film Roman, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes premiered in October 2010, initially featuring the team's original comic-book roster -- Iron Man, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Ant-Man and Wasp -- which later expanded to include Captain America, Black Panther, Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel.

Avengers Assemble, like the recently launched Marvel comic series of the same name, to reflect the lineup of the blockbuster live-action film -- Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye -- plus the Falcon. Presumably additional details will be provided next month at Comic-Con International.
