Some newly surfaced Avengers: Age of Ultron concept art reveals a very different, yet familiar, look for the film's titular villain.
"Here's an early concept of when #ultron too his first form out of Tony Stark's #ironman junk parts in #avengersageofultron," former Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Charlie Wen wrote in an Instagram post.

A.I. #takeover 🤖... do you agree with Elon Musk? * Here’s an early concept of when #ultron took his first form out of Tony Stark’s #ironman junk parts in #avengersageofultron . * * * * #marvel #marvelstudios #avengers #ai #artificialintelligence #takeovertheworld #tonystark #robots #imcharliewen
The design features an Ultron that looks a lot more like Iron Man than the version(s) fans saw in the film. Here, Ultron has a face similar to Tony Stark's Iron Man helmet, while some red-and-gold-plated armor can be spotted on his left shoulder.
As the creator of Ultron, it would have made sense for the villain to base his design on his Iron Man tech. He was looking to create a new Iron Legion of sorts, and what better way to do that than with the Iron Man suit?
This is not the first time Wen has revealed concept art from the film that never made the final cut, as he also recently unveiled a more comic book-accurate take on Tony's Hulkbuster armor.
Directed by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as J.A.R.V.I.S/Vision, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, James Spader as Ultron and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. The film is currently available on Digital HD, DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
