The climax of Avengers: Age of Ultron featured Earth's Mightiest Heroes going up against an entire army of Ultron bots in the hopes of stopping the villain from dropping the flying city of Sokovia down to destroy the planet. The fight saw all of the Avengers take on and destroy countless robots as they fought to evacuate the city. But it appears as if this fight could have taken a very different turn.

Phil Saunders, a concept artist who worked on the Avengers sequel recently released a previously unseen piece of concept art from the film. In it, we see Iron Man and the Hulk take on a gigantic form of Ultron composed of all of the small Ultron bots. This giant construct, as the concept artist reveals, was called 'Mega Ultron.'

Avengers Age of Ultron Mega Ultron concept art

"This concept of a "Mega Ultron" composed of thousands of Ultron bots was briefly considered for the climax of Avengers: Age of Ultron," Saunders wrote. "Ultimately (and I think for the best) it was rejected." Surely this would have made the final battle of the film different than what fans got in the movie. Even better, it would have given us Ultron's proper, comic book look.

Considering that one of the major complaints coming out of Age of Ultron was that the fateful battle for Sokovia resembled the climax of 2012's The Avengers too closely, perhaps such a drastic turn of events would have gone a long way in putting those criticisms to rest. Seeing the Avengers go up against a gigantic robotic monster would surely have been a sight to behold, and it would have set the fight apart from all others in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If the scene would have been half as epic as Saunders' finished concept art, fans would have truly been in for one hard-hitting fight in Avengers: Age of Ultron -- a fight that maybe would have made a difference in the overall reception of the film.
