A recent piece of concept art reveals a very different -- and almost completely re-imagined -- Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the image posted on Instagram by artist Charlie Wen, Marvel Studios' Head of Visual Development, Ultron has a more stylized and robotic feel, with an insectoid twist.

Wen mentions in his caption that the image was one of the first Ultron concept ketches he created for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"In the beginning stages, we created legions of these sketches of just the head or bust in order to have blue sky sessions with the director and producers," mentioned Wen in the Instagram post. "I also painted Ultrons that felt a bit more like some of the comic book versions at that time. We probably could have gotten these more stylized faces to emote on screen as well, but in the end, wound up with something more relatable... more human ;)."

In the 2015 film Age of Ultron, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) jump-starts a dormant peacekeeping program and things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battle Ultron, a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction.

There's even more Avengers: Age of Ultron concept art on Wen's Instagram page. If his work looks familiar, it's because he designed the massive, interconnected Avengers vs. an army of Ultrons poster that was used to promote the film back in 2015.
