Tony Stark may have survived Thanos' universe-altering finger snap in Avengers: Infinity War, but he was left stranded on distant Titan. However, with the release of the first trailer for its sequel, Avengers: Endgame, we now know what state Tony is in, and it doesn't look good.

The trailer begins with a close-up of Tony's damaged Iron Man helmet. As he activates its communication setting, the camera pulls back to show him aboard the Guardians of the Galaxy's abandoned ship, the Benatar. As you'll recall, in Infinity War, the Guardians met Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man on Titan, where they confronted Thanos. With all of the Guardians on Titan except Nebula vaporized, Tony obviously has taken the vessel in an attempt to return to Earth. Unfortunately, however, the Benatar is now adrift in space, with food and water running out four days earlier, and only enough oxygen remaining to last until the next morning. Tony is attempting to send a message to Pepper Potts on Earth, but he has no idea whether it will reach her.

"When I drift off, I will dream about you," Tony says. "It's always you." His scene ends with him turning off the power on the helmet. Although that's the last we see of Iron Man, we have to wonder whether he's all alone. Later on, Nebula is seen standing in the entryway of a ship's cockpit, and those may be her fingertips brushing someone's shoulder.

Tony and Nebula were the only survivors remaining on Titan, so it would make sense for them to travel the stars together while they search for help. Nebula likely wouldn't have to worry as much about the food, water and oxygen supply, as she's part-alien and part-machine. Having a companion by your side probably helps as your final days tick by, but it certainly doesn't solve the immediate problem of survival.

Another possibility is the Nebula scene is on an Avengers Quinjet. Captain America and Black Widow are aboard the aircraft near the end of the trailer, and Nebula hypothetically could have ditched Tony on Titan and found her own way to Earth. Or, the Avengers in space. There could be any number of scenarios at play here.

It would be pretty underwhelming if Iron Man died in the far reaches of space without the opportunity for payback against the Mad Titan. We know he will somehow reunite with the remaining members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but the teaser stops short of revealing those details. We'll have to wait for the next trailer to discover exactly what happens to Iron Man while he's lost in space.
