After the long wait for the first Avengers: Endgame trailer, it's no surprise that fans have pored over each frame for clues. And some Twitter detectives may have uncovered evidence of one beloved character who died in Avengers: Infinity War.
There's a fleeting moment in the footage, as Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Star is adrift in space, when some fans think they can spot Groot in the ship's cockpit.
It certainly wouldn't be the first time the lovable Guardian of the Galaxy died, only to return in one form or another: He sacrificed himself in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, but a twig saved from his remains became his offspring, featured prominently in the sequel. In his subsequent appearance in Infinity War, the younger Groot was among the victims of Thanos' universe-altering snap. That could spell the permanent end of the road for the character, but the tiny trailer details spreading across Twitter seem to be keeping fans' hopes alive.
The release date for Avengers: Endgame was moved up a week from its original May 2019 release date, which means audiences will have a slightly shorter wait to find out whether the purported Groot sighting is legitimate.
Avengers: Endgame will release on April 26, 2019. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel’s Avengers 4 stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L.
