Following months of speculation about its release date and title, the first trailer for Marvel's Avengers: Endgame has finally given fans a look at the hotly anticipated sequel to Infinity War. At nearly two and a half minutes in length, the footage focuses on the aftermath of Thanos' devastating snap, and teases Tony Stark's bleak fate, Clint Barton's transformation into Ronin, Steve Rogers' plan to defeat the Mad Titan, and Scott Lang's return from the Quantum Realm.

Most of the events of the trailer appear to take place shortly after the so-called "Decimation," debunking rumors the sequel would pick up five years later. However, the footage definitely lends some credence to a slew of other fan theories about Avengers 4.

Here are some of the biggest moments from the trailer:

IRON MAN: STRANDED WITH NEBULA

The trailer opens with Tony Stark on The Benatar, in which the Guardians of the Galaxy traveled to Titan in to fight Thanos. Stark records a final message for Pepper Potts into a half-destroyed Iron Man helmet. "Just for the record, being adrift in space with zero promise of rescue is more fun than it sounds," he narrates, before mentioning that his oxygen will run out in the morning. "When I drift off, I will dream about you; it's always you."

His dire situation is likely due to The Benatar sustaining damage during the fight with Thanos on Titan. Stark's narration indicates he's been without food or water for four days. It's not clear how well-supplied The Benatar was when he boarded it, so it's difficult to tell how long he has been adrift.

Subsequent footage reveals that Nebula is also on the ship. However, considering she's a blend of alien and machine, she might not require the oxygen or food in the same way as the human Stark, so her predicament may be less dire.

THANOS RESTS

Thanos appeared prominently in pretty much every trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, but Endgame only gives fans a quick look at Mad Titan following his culling of half the universe. Continuing from the final scene of Infinity War, Thanos is apparently still retired on Titan 2. The trailer shows him walking through a field of poppy- and cactus-like flowers, and a scarecrow made of his armor, itself a reference to the comics. Although it's not clear from the trailer, Thanos is still wearing the Infinity Gauntlet, giving some indication that it may have fused to his hand following the snap.

WHO DIED?

Back at Avengers compound, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Bruce Banner/Hulk and Captain America mourn those who died at the end of Infinity War. As Rogers -- no longer sporting his beard -- cries, Banner watches one of the screens display three people as missing: Peter Parker, Scott Lang and Shuri.

Despite their statuses, those three characters are unlikely to stay dead, or missing, for long. Lang appears at the end of the trailer, and the upcoming film Spider-Man: Far From Home is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, making it likely Parker will recover from his dusting.

Shuri's status comes as something of a surprise, as actor Angela Bassett, who plays Ramonda, confirmed in July that her character, and her on-screen daughter Shuri, survived. It's possible that something changed during reshoots or editing, but it seems unlikely the Avengers -- who were in Wakanda when the snap occurred -- were simply unable to find her. It's unlikely Shuri will stay dead if she was indeed one of the victims of the snap, as a sequel to Black Panther is all but officially confirmed.

HAWKEYE IS RONIN

Avengers Endgame trailer Clint Barton

Long speculated to appear in Avengers 4, Hawkeye is confirmed in his Ronin persona. This darker take on the character is introduced somewhat brutally, as Black Widow watches Barton take down a man in Japan.

The trailer voiceover does seem to indicate what drives Ronin to take up his sword. "We lost, all of us," Steve Rogers says. "We lost friends. We lost family. We lost a part of ourselves." As the narration continues, the trailer shows three characters: Thor, Nebula and Hawkeye. The framing of the voiceover seems to imply that Hawkeye has lost those most important to him, potentially confirming fan theories that his family -- first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron -- were dusted by the snap.

CAPTAIN AMERICA HAS A PLAN

Although the Avengers are down, they're certainly not out, as Captain America has a plan to defeat Thanos. "It's going to work, Steve," Black Widow tells Captain America aboard the Quinjet. "I know it is," he replies, "because I don't know what I'm going to do if it doesn't."

This scene probably comes from a little later in the movie. By this point, it's likely that the Avengers have regrouped, as attempting to fight Thanos with just those left alive on Earth seems like a pretty awful plan. The encounter with Thanos may end up proving fatal for Captain America, as Evans has previously indicated the film will mark the end of his time as Captain America. Still, directors Joe and Anthony Russo claimed in late November that Evans wasn't quite yet done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

SCOTT LANG RETURNS

During mid-credits scene for Ant-Man and The Wasp, Scott Lang was seemingly trapped in the Quantum Realm when Hope van Dyne, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne were dusted following Thanos' snap. However, the trailer's very own post-credits sequence reveals Lang is alive, and free of the Quantum Realm.

"Hi, is anyone home?" Lang asks, appearing on a security camera outside the Avengers compound. "This is Scott Lang. We met a few years ago at the airport in Germany. I got really big. Ant-Man. Ant-Man? I know you know that. That's me. Can you buzz me in?"

Lang's appearance at the end of the trailer, alongside actor Michael Douglas' statements that the Quantum Realm is integral to the next stages of the MCU, lends further credence to fan theories that the Quantum Realm will play a critical role in the beating the Mad Titan.
