WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, in theaters now.

There might be a big change coming for a certain Avenger in the as-yet untitled followup to Avengers: Infinity War. As spotted by an eagle-eyed fan on Twitter, Gwyneth Paltrow may have let slip a huge spoiler about Avengers 4 that could see a seismic shift in the relationship between her character Pepper Potts and Tony Stark.

"Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together," Paltrow said in a recent interview for Marvel's Official Avengers: Infinity War magazine. "She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they're married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve."

The revelation that Tony and Pepper are married and have a child fuels rumors that there may be a time jump in between Infinity War and Avengers 4, as the heroes recover from the traumatic events of the previous film.

This could also confirm the theory that Pepper Potts is pregnant during the events of the third Avengers film, first posited by Tony Stark himself as the two enjoy a pleasant jog through New York City. Sharing a dream from the previous night, Tony suspects his fiancée may be expecting and suggests they name the hypothetical child after Pepper's eccentric uncle Morgan. While Pepper initially denies the insinuation, she tries to tell Tony that he's "going to be --" before having her phone call cut off as her fiancé leaves Earth's orbit on board an alien spaceship.

If true, this adds emotional resonance to Iron Man's role in the upcoming Avengers movie and provides another significant milestone -- and perhaps the perfect sendoff -- for Tony's decade-long character arc within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Helmed by returning directors Anthony and Joe Russo, the Avengers 4 film is due to hit theaters on May 5, 2019.
