If you had imagined anxiously sitting through the end credits of Avengers: Infinity War to be greeted by the real title for Avengers 4, you're about to be disappointed. You'll have to wait a lot longer for that.

“It’s going to be quite a long while before people see that title," co-director Joe Russo confirmed to Yahoo! Movies U.K. “We need people to see this movie, digest this movie, and then we can tell them what the next story is they’re going to see.”

Although Marvel Studios originally announced the two ensemble movies as Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Part II, Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed in May 2016 that they were being retitled because they're "two very different movies." Since then, the actual title of Avengers 4 has been shrouded in secrecy and the subject of fevered speculation, in no small part because it's believed to spoil the events of Infinity War. While Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said the significance of the sequel's title "has been blown out of proportion," it's certainly worth noting that even the cast doesn't know what it is.

That said, Joe Russo emphasized Infinity War won't end with a massive cliffhanger that will be resolved in Avengers 4.

“It’s a complete story,” he said. “It’s got a beginning, middle and an end and the next movie has a beginning, middle and an end, in the same way that Civil War handed off to Infinity War and Infinity War will hand off to the next movie. It’s serialized storytelling without question so there is going to be a correlation, narratively, but we really wanted to make two distinct movies. We weren’t interested in making one long film and getting out the scissors and cutting the scissors and cutting it in half. "

Opening April 27, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin. Avengers 4 arrives May 3, 2019.
