Jim Starlin is ready to set the record straight when it comes to rumors that more of his characters will be appearing in Avengers 4. While earlier reports indicated that Starlin said more of his creations would show up in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, now the legendary comic book writer and artist says that simply isn’t the case.

“Okay, this has gone on long enough,” Starlin said in a statement released via Facebook. “Last month at a con in Puerto Rico it came up in the Q&A that I received two credits in the [Avengers: Infinity War]. I then kidded that I was going to shoot for three in the next movie. I never said another of my characters is going to be appearing in it as has been widely reported since then. That was a mistake on the original reporter’s part.”

That alleged mistake arose at Puerto Rico Comic Con back in May. At the time, it was reported that Starlin would be adding more “created by” credits to Avengers 4. The claim seemed like a fitting one, as Infinity War killed off a good number of the franchise’s main and side characters, leaving room for a multitude of possible additions from across Marvel Comics’ expansive roster.

Lately, Starlin is perhaps best known for creating Thanos, the Mad Titan whose finger snap just wiped out half the life in the universe in Infinity War. When news broke that Starlin would seemingly be receiving additional credits on Avengers 4, many fans assumed that characters like A’lars, Thanos’ father, would end up in the mix.

While Starlin has made it clear that he was not talking about more of his characters appearing in Avengers 4, and that his jest was taken too seriously by those in attendance, that does not mean the movie will be devoid of his creations. Thanos will almost certainly play a major role in Avengers 4, and cosmic characters like Pip the Troll or Adam Warlock could be referenced, if they do not play a significant role in the story.

Little else is known about Avengers 4 at this time. Even the film’s subtitle will not be fully unveiled until later this year, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers 4 will likely star the heroes who survived Thanos’ finger snap, such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon, Karen Gillan’s Nebula and Danai Gurira’s Okoye among others. The film releases in theaters on May 3, 2019.
