The proto-Avengers team dubbed the Avengers 1,000,000 BC, have only been around in Marvel comics for a short amount of time. They have already gained a large number of fans, in no small part due to their creative origins and fun adventures. The team is perfectly designed to reflect the Marvel universe of the past and readers are very much on board for the new team.

Since the team is still finding its feet however, many Marvel readers might not have come across them yet. The team of seven have already overcome some grave threats and certainly paved the way for the future of the brand. Here's ten things that Marvel fans should know about the Avengers 1,000,000 BC!

10 ORIGINS

The origins of these Avengers start a few billion years before the team was even formed. A celestial being was actually attacked by some aliens causing it to bleed profusely. The blood of this god like creature ended up landing on Earth which made the ground fertile for all the fantastic beings that would be created in the future.

This is in some way an origin for every super human on Earth, but the origins of the team itself is much like the future Avengers. Each member has their own start in this world of aliens and magic, but the team was formed together in order to face a threat than no single member could stand against by themselves.

9 ROSTER

The roster is designed to be able to mimic the modern day Avengers team. Each member is therefore representative of someone from the 21st century. Thor is replaced by his father Odin for instance. There's a Black Panther and an original Phoenix.

Not only that, there's also an Iron Fist, a Ghost Rider and an early Starbrand which is essentially a version of the Hulk. Finally there's also Agamotto to round out the list, replacing Doctor Strange as the resident magic wielder on the team. It's a formidable group of heroes.

8 DEBUT MISSION

Their first mission is actually linked to the overall origin of super humans. A celestial being had gone mad and threatened Earth and its existence. No normal beings would be able to step such a threat. Therefore in Marvel Legacy issue 1 the team started out on their first mission.

It proved challenged to face such an almighty threat and the Avengers of today would absolutely struggle to be able to combat what is essentially a god that's responsible for the very existence of things. It took some extraordinary team work and some mighty powers to be able to face the creature.

7 VICTORY

The team had a big success in their first mission as they were able to claim victory over the celestial in an epic fight. With their combined abilities they managed to slay the god and buried it beneath the Earth. It is thought that the celestial was somewhere under the North Pole.

However, this is a tainted victory as the celestial was never truly killed. This was made apparent when Odin's adopted son Loki, sought to awaken the beast once again. He managed to creating havoc on Earth thus leading to the modern Avengers confronting him and a legion of dark celestials.

6 RETURN

The team had to return to the big fight once again when the threat on Earth re-surfaced. After defeating the original celestial many more reigned down on Earth, perhaps looking for revenge. Known as the first hosts, the battle raged on against them.

These beings quickly lost interest in the fight however and just left Earth, much to the confusion of the Avengers 1,000,000 BC. These are the celestials that would ultimately create other beings such as the Eternals. The fight meant that this team had become the premiere line of defence on Earth.

5 ROMANCE

Much like any team, romance blossomed between two of the members of this ancient Avengers. It may be surprising to learn that one of the people involved in this love affair was Odin, the father of Loki and Thor. At the time he was the worthy wielder of Mjonir and a key member of the team.

He fell in love with Lady Phoenix. Much like Jean Grey of the modern era, the Phoenix force had bonded itself to the young woman and she possessed unbelievable cosmic powers which she was in control of! Odin found this power very attractive and the two were in a committed relationship for some time.

4 FIRST SORCERER SUPREME

A team of this scale needs a magic wielder. Enter the Sorcerer Supreme Agamotto. If the name seems familiar its because its the original user of the Eye of Agamotto, which was subsequently named after him. He's an incredibly powerful magician who paved the way for future generations.

He's also known as the first Sorcerer Supreme because of his abilities and knowledge of the mystic arts. He's a force to be reckoned with and has now been written into the history books of Marvel. Much like modern day sorcerers, he also defended Earth against mystic threats such as Dormammu.

3 BEFORE THE BLACK PANTHERS

Wakanda was built off of the back of the Vibranium that fell to Earth on a meteorite. One of the first people to come in to contact with this was the original Black Panther. In fact, he wasn't even known as this at the time because of how early on these events occurred.

This was before Wakanda was as developed as it now is and the meteorite actually bestowed some powers on this first Panther. All the panthers since have found their strength from the heart shaped herb but it appears its the contact with the Vibranium and perhaps a blessing from the panther god Bast which gave him his abilities.

2 GHOST RIDER

The demon Mephisto has often offered the chance for people to save themselves by helping his cause. For a young boy who lived amongst cave men and animals, he was afforded the opportunity to become the new spirit of vengeance. The Ghost Rider force bonded to him creating a new hero.

This mystical being actually encountered a mammoth that he befriended and started to ride it. Instead of a car, a horse or a motorbike, the Ghost Rider of 1,000,000 BC rode in to battle on the back of a woody beast. Mephisto, in the form of the snake, granted the right boy these gifts as he sought to uphold justice and collect souls.

1 THE ORIGINAL IRON FIST

Fan Fei was exiled from K'un-Lun and imprisoned after she broke the rules one too many times. She would find a lot of joy in leaving the city and exploring its many secrets. However, one day during her confinement the dragon Shou-Lao appeared and decimated the city.

Escaping, Fan Fei managed to not only defeat the beast but actually kill it. In the process its blood fell onto her hands creating the first ever immortal Iron Fist. Her impressive abilities allowed the exile to be lifted but she instead stayed on Earth, joining the heroic Avengers.
