Zoe Saldana has reportedly completed filming for her role as Neytiri in James Cameron's four planned sequels to the highest-grossing film of all time, 2009's Avatar, all of which began production in September of last year.
According to Deadline, Cameron revealed during Sony's presentation at CineEurope that Saldana wrapped her part in the Avatar sequels late last week. Other nuggets of information dropped by Cameron included news that franchise newcomer Kate Winslet can hold her breath underwater for seven minutes and water "plays a huge part" in the upcoming sequels, which will explore "never before seen parts of Pandora."
Jon Landau of Lightstorm Entertainment, the production company on the Avatar sequels, introduced a video of James Cameron at the CineEurope event, who noted that he is currently on day 130 of performance capture for the sequels. Cameron concluded his video describing the early results on the films as "beyond even our expectations."
Avatar 2 is set for a release date of December 18, 2020. The film will see the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and Joel David Moore to the franchise, while bringing in newcomers Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis. Avatar 3 is targeted for a December 17, 2021 release. Avatar 4 & 5 will release in 2024 and 2025, respectively, although their releases are dependant upon the financial successes of Avatar 2 & 3.
