Stephen Lang, the esteemed character actor recently seen as Colonel Quarritch in Avatar, is in talks to join the cast of Terra Nova, Steven Spielberg’s time-traveling television series for Fox.
Lang was previously considered for Terra Nova, but his commitment to feature films such as Marcus Nispel’s Conan prevented him from signing onto the series. Now, Lang’s schedule has freed up and he’s received an offer from producers. If he joins the cast, Lang will play Frank Taylor, the ruthless commander of the Terra Nova settlement. Certainly a role unlike any he’s played before, isn’t it?
But where one man joins Terra Nova, another man leaves it. Deadline reports that executive producer David Fury has left the series over those oh so dreaded creative differences. Showrunner Brannon Braga remains the only writing executive producer on the series. Fury’s departure is certainly a loss; the writer was responsible for some of the best episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. He also had an active role on the first season of Lost, writing the script for the critically acclaimed John Locke-centric “Walkabout.”
