20th Century Studios has finally announced the physical media release date for Avatar: The Way of Water.Per Collider, The Water of Water will be released on 4K UHD, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD on June 20, 2023. An Ultimate Collector's Edition of 2009's Avatar will also be released the same day. "I am grateful that audiences all over the globe went to the theaters to see Avatar: The Way of Water," said director James Cameron in a statement. Avatar 2 Will Hit Streaming Before Home Video Release

Ahead of the film's home video release, Avatar: The Way of Water will be available to stream on Disney+ and HBO Max beginning June 7. In addition to the film, Disney+ will include bonus content featuring behind-the-scenes footage with the cast and crew. The streaming launch comes three months after The Way of Water's digital release. The long-awaited sequel to the original Avatar film was a major box office, becoming the third highest-grossing box office feature of all time. According to reports, The Way of Water made a profit of roughly $500 million for 20th Century, Disney and Cameron. The film also received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

Set over a decade after the events of the 2009 film, Avatar: The Way of Water follows Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they navigate the turbulent alien planet of Pandora while raising their five children. Sigourney Weaver, who originally appeared in the first film as Dr. Grace Augustine, plays their adoptive teenage daughter Kiri in the sequel, with Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss and Jack Champion portraying their other children. The Way of Water also stars Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Brendan Cowell.

When Does Avatar 3 Hit Theaters?

Cameron previously revealed plans for three more Avatar sequels, with the third film already in post-production and set for a theatrical release on Dec. 24, 2024. While plot details for the sci-fi tentpole remain under wraps, Cameron has revealed that the threequel will introduce the fire and wind Na'vi tribes. Avatar 3 will also be narrated by Dalton (as Jake Sully's son Lo'ak) instead of Worthington, who narrated the first two films as Jake Sully.

Avatar: The Water of Water will be available to own on 4K UHD, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD beginning June 20.
