During the third season of the show, Zuko studies his heritage more in-depth and discovers that he is a descendant of both Fire Lord Sozin on his father's side and Avatar Roku on his mother's side. This essentially makes him the embodiment of the internal conflict he has been wrestling with since the beginning of the series.
