Avatar Legends, the tabletop role-playing game set within the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbendersmashed its $50,000 Kickstarter goal in a surprisingly short period of time.

Developed by Magpie Games, Avatar Legends is the officially licensed tabletop RPG of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Designed from the ground up, the game will introduce a variety of unique character creation tools, stories and combat mechanics that will take full advantage of the game's setting. Announced on Kickstarter, the game managed to surpass its initial goal of $50,000 in just 16 minutes and currently sits at well over $1 million at the time of writing.

"[Avatar Legends: The RPG] is a game for people of all ages who want to look at the world beyond the scope of the existing stories and explore the meaningful actions heroes take for the good of others," explains Magpie games. Players will be able to create their own characters and embark on adventures throughout the Avatar universe, potentially bumping into iconic and beloved characters along the way.

Avatar Legends: The RPG offers players the freedom to play through any era of the expansive Avatar universe. Choosing from a variety of archetypes, players can assume the role of an elemental bender, martial artist, technological genius or even a humble merchant as they embark on their adventure. "Playbooks" are used to create characters quickly and easily, assigning personality traits and goals that can grow and evolve as players progress through their journey.

As for combat, Magpie Games designed a system that allows every player to be valuable, be they a firebender or a sword fighter. Players can select a discipline and then modify it using a "fighting style," which describes how their abilities manifest in the world, such as Aang's staff or Kyoshi's metal fans.

"In order to learn new techniques for your training, however, you must find yourself a master to teach you. Tracking down a master is a great excuse for an adventure and will push your character to new heights as you seek out someone who can expand your skills and training," explains Magpie Games. Yet even then, in order to use the ability, players will need to accomplish a goal set by their master, discovering something about themself in the process.

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans intrigued by Legends can find the game over on Kickstarter. The campaign is live for another 29 days and the game is planned to ship in February 2022. Several pledge tiers are available, with some of the more expensive options providing backers with limited-edition dice bags, hard copy books and a journal pack.
