Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has found its Ty Lee.On Twitter, @AvatarNews_ revealed Momona Tamada was cast as Lee in the upcoming series and that she's already completed filming on Season 1. The actor is best-known for her role as Claudia Kishi in The Baby-Sitters Club. Additionally, she played young versions of Lara Jean and Kimiko Miyashiro, also known as The Female, in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and The Boys, respectively.

Who Is Ty Lee?

Introduced in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2, Episode 3, "Return to Omashu," Lee is a key ally of the Fire Nation's Princess Azula, though she's notably more cheerful and easygoing than her teammates. Additionally, the character is able to use Chi-blocking, a powerful technique that allows her to temporarily take away powers from Benders. In the original series, Lee was voiced by Olivia Hack.

What Is Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 until 2008. The series, which ran for three seasons, followed Aang, the titular character, as he attempted to stop the Fire Nation's attempts at expansion after. The series proved immensely popular and is often considered one of the greatest animated series ever. A sequel, The Legend of Korra, ran for four seasons between 2012 and 2014. Since then, the stories of those two shows have been continued in comic book form.

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender was originally announced in 2018, with production wrapping earlier this year. Although DiMartino and Konietzko were originally involved in the show, they opted to leave the project in 2020, citing creative differences. Netflix responded to their exit by saying the company is still confident in its adaptation.

At the time of writing, Avatar: The Last Airbender does not have a set release date on Netflix. However, the original series is available to stream online and own in physical media.
