While for the most part Waterbenders are peaceful in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the animated series did introduce a subset of the group capable of horrific acts. Known as Bloodbending, the art allows a Waterbender to essentially manipulate a person's blood, leading to often brutal results. In this video, we're going to go into some of the secrets behind Bloodbending and going into the possible dark uses for the ability.

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Bloodbending was seemingly only usable during the full moon, which is when Waterbenders are particularly powerful. That being said, The Legend of Korra indicated that Bloodbending is entirely possible without the full moon. Through experimentation, one might be able to further enhance the power and make it even more unstoppable, especially since restrictions on the ability have it from advancing very far.

Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender debuted on Nickelodeon in 2005 and ran for three seasons. Following the end of the show, a sequel series, The Legend of Korra, ran from 2012 until 2014. Since the end of that show, there have been a number of different comic books and novels set in the Avatar Universe. Currently, Netflix is working on a live-action adaptation of the series and there are projects in the work from Avatar Studios. At this time, it's unclear if Bloodbending will play a role in any future projects set in the Avatar Universe, though it's entirely possible the technique isn't going to be forgotten forever.
