In the Avatar series, Aang must master the four elements to save the world, but he's already in good company. There are plenty of characters in anime who also have control over the elements. Of course, with different cultures often having their own list of elements, different anime often has different sets of traditional elements. Some series prefer the Greek elements, the Chinese elements, or the Japanese elements. Taking influence from video games, some anime even settle on just having fire, ice, and lightning as the three basic elements.

In anime, these characters can often take on different forms that reflect the individual elements, meaning they can only control one at a time. In fiction, characters who control the mysterious "fifth" element, like aether, void, or quintessence, often can control the other elements as well.

10 Black Clover: Grey Can Transform Any Element Into Another Element

Black Clover Grey

In the world of Black Clover, magic is usually divided into four elements: wind, fire, water, and earth, with most attributes being derived from them, in addition to a few irregular ones, like time. Generally, a person can only control one such attribute, with most exceptions being only dual attributes.

Grey, however, found a loophole with her Transformation Magic, since she has the power to transform any elemental attack into any element she wants. Because of this, she effectively has power over every magical element. This implies her powers are much more than they seem and also classifies her as an Arcane Stage mage.

9 Pretear: Himeno Can Control Seven Elements Through The Leafe Knights

White Pretear

In Pretear, Himeno isn't like most magical girls: instead of transforming with a catchphrase and trinket, she essentially fuses with one of her Leafe Knights to become the Pretear. Depending on the Knight, she can wield power over wind, sound, light, fire, water, ice, or, in the manga, plants.

Her ultimate form is the White Pretear, which she must learn to access on her own, without any of the knights. In this form, she can control the Snow of Miracles, which can even restore the dead to life.

This is just the start of the list of his powers, from manipulating gravity and creating ethereal clones of himself. He's also one of the few espers with the ability to transfer and absorb psychic energy, just like Mob.

Unlike most examples, the connection to the elements aren't always too literal: earth gives the wearer super strength and wind gives super speed and the ability to know the future. The fire and water suits, however, give control over their respective elements.

In addition, in the original series, some of the cards he claims over the series include The Time, The Storm, The Return, The Dash, The Freeze, The Dream, and The Twin, among others.

Shirada Samurai Deeper Kyo

In Samurai Deeper Kyo, Shindara is said to control the four elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. While this is presumably true, in practice, he only shows his power over water and fire.

It's implied that he also lacks in prowess what he makes up for in variety, as Hotaru and Shinrei are shown to be more capable than him when it comes to their elements.
