Earlier this year, Magpie Games announced a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of an Avatar: The Last Airbender tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG), and now that the campaign has closed, it's clear that fans of Nickelodeon's acclaimed series are beyond excited to explore the world of bending and spirits in Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game.

The Kickstarter campaign for the game earned a total of $9,535,317, which is almost 20 times the initial goal of $50,000, and in the process, it smashed several records. Not only was the game funded in sixteen minutes after being announced, but the Avatar TTRPG is also now the 10th top-funded campaign, the ninth most backed campaign and the highest funded tabletop roleplaying game of all time on Kickstarter.

The development team was eager to express their appreciation and amazement in the campaign's latest update, describing the experience as "absolutely mindblowing." They thanked their 81,567 backers, writing, "Your feedback, excitement, and ideas always help us build strong games, and this project is no different! You've made Avatar Legends: The RPG better in so many ways, and we appreciate all of your support."

The team went on to further explain that they will be taking a short break to renew and regroup before diving into working on Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game. Work still needs to be completed in terms of writing and editing the text and finalizing the rule book's layout. Moreover, the team will be busy creating all the stretch goals that were achieved, which include a world map, dice pack and bag, journal pack with art, Wan Shi Tong's Adventure Guide and six additional playbooks.

Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game will allow fans of the animated series to adventure forth into the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. While the game will allow for ample opportunity for players to partake in combat, whether by bending the elements or throwing a trusty boomerang, it also centers the franchise's theme of balance. According to the campaign's description, "Your hero fights for balance in the world, but also wrestles with maintaining balance within while trying to achieve the goals they've set for themselves."

Delivery of Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game is expected to occur sometime in February 2022, and the development team has promised to continually post updates in the interim. Moreover, they recognize that many Avatar fans may have been unable to participate in the Kickstarter campaign; to make sure these fans don't miss out on an opportunity to own the TTRPG, they have set up a pre-order store through Backerkit that will stay open through at least Oct. 1.

Both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are currently available to stream on Netflix.
