Two new video games -- an RPG (Role-Playing Game) and MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Fame) -- for Avatar: The Last Airbender are reportedly in development.

According to Avatar News, the games are being developed by an undisclosed game studio in partnership with Paramount's Avatar Studios. Specific details like the games' casts, creative teams, story elements and release dates are currently unknown.

The console RPG and MMORPG are not the only recent developments for Avatar: The Last Airbender in the world of gaming. Last year, Square Enix revealed that it is creating a mobile game set in the world of Avatar. Moreover, Magpie Games began shipping digital copies of Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game, a tabletop RPG, to its Kickstarter supporters in mid-January. The system allows gamers and fans alike to play through their own adventures in a variety of periods across the franchise's timeline, including Aang's Era, Korra's Era and Avatar Kyoshi's Era.

There also have been developments beyond the context of gaming. Most notably, Netflix is creating a live-action adaptation of the beloved series. Filming on the Avatar: The Last Airbender reboot has reportedly started, and the show's cast includes many experienced and popular actors like Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh. Gordon Cormier stars as Aang alongside Kiawentiio as Katara and Ian Ousley as Sokka. While they didn't feature in Season 1 of the animated series, rumor has it that fan-favorite characters Mai and Ty Lee will appear in the first season of Netflix's Avatar.

The second part of F. C. Yee's young adult novel series about Avatar KyoshiThe Shadow of Kyoshi, was released last year. The novels have revealed many interesting secrets about one of the franchise's most prominent and notable Avatars, including how she managed to live to be 230 years old and her opinions about how powerful and devastating airbending can truly be under the right circumstances.

Recent fan speculation has also been providing explanations that fill in some of the missing pieces of Avatar's story and world. For example, several theories posit different ways the Fire Nation executed its surprise attack against the Air Nomads at the beginning of the war. These range from harnessing the power of dragons to having elite soldiers use jet propulsion to fly towards the temple.

All three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender and all four seasons of its sequel series, Legend of Korra, are available to stream on Netflix.
